FAQ

Questions we get asked.

What we do

What does Launch Mode actually do?

We help growing businesses build three things: a clear direction, a strategy to reach it, and the operational systems that support both. In practice that covers business architecture (how your company is structured and runs), digital and AI transformation (putting technology where it genuinely saves time), and bespoke software for the places off-the-shelf tools don't fit.

What is business architecture?

Business architecture is the design of how a company actually works: its structure, processes, roles, data and commercial model, and how those pieces fit together. It sits underneath strategy. Strategy decides where you're going; architecture determines whether the business is built to get there.

We start by exploring how your business runs day-to-day from first principles, then architect it around the next phase of growth.

How is this different from management consultancy?

Most consultancy engagements end with a recommendation and a new list of requirements and expenses. Our engagements finish with your business running better. We stay through implementation and build the solutions and systems ourselves, so the output is working infrastructure rather than a document describing what should happen next.

Do you work on the technology or the business itself?

Both, and almost always the business first. Technology bolted onto a badly structured process just makes the problem happen faster. Once the structure and the strategy are right, it becomes obvious which parts are worth automating or rebuilding.

Working together

How does an engagement start?

With a call, followed by a strategic appraisal to understand the problems, solutions and opportunities in front of you. That appraisal is usually the cheapest part of the work and the most important, because everything that follows is shaped by it.

What size of business do you work with?

Funded start-ups which require structure, and growing companies that have outgrown the way they were originally set up. Typically we work with teams of 1-20 who are feeling weighed down by day-to-day operations.

How long does a typical engagement last?

It depends on which shape of engagement makes sense: a focused strategic appraisal, a zero-to-one build, or a member of our team embedding with you for a period. Typically we engage with clients for 3-12 months.

How much does it cost?

For project and appraisal work, our fees start as low as £2,000 + VAT. Service retainers typically start at £1,000 + VAT per calendar month. Fractional services depend entirely on the scope of the agreement and expertise required.

Do you work remotely or on-site?

We usually take a hybrid approach, depending on the nature and ambitions of the business. Complex challenges require a hands-on and consultative approach to problem solving, whereas technological solutions are handled remotely by our developers.

What happens when the work is finished?

Your team takes it on. We hand over with the guidance and training people need to run everything confidently, and your team aligns around the renewed architecture and objectives. The goal is a business that works without us in it.

AI and technology

How do you decide where AI is worth using?

We apply tech, AI and automation only where they save real time or resource, and that decision comes out of the strategic appraisal rather than from a list of AI features. If a problem is better solved by changing how the team works, we'll tell you that instead.

We tried an AI pilot and nothing came of it. Why does that happen?

Pilots usually stall because they're built alongside the business instead of inside it. If the output doesn't arrive in a workflow someone already uses, and nobody has been trained to depend on it, it gets quietly abandoned once the novelty passes. We build into existing operations and treat training as part of the delivery, not an afterthought.

Should we buy off-the-shelf software or build our own?

Buy if it works, build for competitive advantage. Where software subscriptions do the job, they are almost always cheaper and faster. Building makes sense when the available tools don't match how you work or when you're hunting for a competitive edge. Part of our job is telling you honestly which situation you're in.

Do you use AI in your own business?

Yes. We use AI intelligently across most of our operations and workflows, always with a human in the loop. DaveOS, for example, is our own workforce software where people and AI agents manage projects and tasks together, and it's what we run on day to day. AI research and development is a critical component of our business in understanding which technologies are impactful and which are novelty.

Experience and results

Who have you worked with?

Clients include Warp Game Publishing, a video game publisher; Veloce Media Group, an esports and media company; and Financial Press, a social platform for investors. We've worked with numerous other clients on a paid, equity or pro bono basis. Check out more detail on our work.

What kind of results do clients see?

It varies with the engagement. We've supported founders in building a games publisher from scratch, through company structure, operating systems, publishing partnerships, recruitment, grant funding and a full slate of signed titles. We've led a product relaunch that refreshed branding and user experience and drove substantial growth in active users. And we've taken a platform from an idea to an established team and a live MVP.

Where are you based?

Launch Mode Ltd is a UK company registered in London, and operating out of Bristol, UK. We work with clients from all over the world.
